The primal punk affections of The Soda Pop Kids have been captured and mixed with 60s bubblegum Pop, scorching guitar riffs with bluesy rhythms and textured, call-and-response vocals. Imaginative and creative songwriting help The Soda Pop Kids escape the malaise of formulaic punk fare and instead they dish up songs about love at the arcade, alien abduction, gun-packing senoritas, and a boy leaving a girl. LIke if the NEW YORK DOLLS had a child with THE RUBETTES.

Rockpile was a tight, entertaining band combining the talents of Dave Edmunds (guitar, vocals), Nick Lowe (bass, vocals), Billy Bremner (guitar, vocals) and Terry Williams (drums). This is an essential release for fans, as Rockpile never released a ‘live’ album in their short lifetime.
Contains greatest hits from both Dave Edmunds’ and Nick Lowe’s stellar back catalogues. Features songs contributed by Mickey Jupp (‘You’ll Never Get Me Up In One Of Those’), Elvis Costello (‘Girls Talk’), Chuck Berry (‘Let It Rock’ & ‘Promised Land’) and, of course, Nick Lowe - Stiff Records’ songwriter supreme - including a version of his debut solo hit ‘So It Goes’.

Thankfully it was also the year a little band from Milwaukee called The Wigs recorded and released their widely undiscovered classic, "File Under: Pop Vocal."

A first ever collection of all the singles and unreleased studio recordings by this seminal UK pop punk outfit with close links to Sparks , whose track ‘Aggravation Place’ is one of the highlights of the Glitterbest set. • The Jook were the brainchild of Sparks manager John Hewlett, who introduced guitarist Trevor White to singer-songwriter Ian Kimmett, and recruited bassist Ian Hampton and drummer Chris Townson.  The Jook released five singles (one of which Oo Oo Rudi inspired early Irish label mates of the Undertones to name themselves Rudi )- and recorded an unreleased album called "Different Class" - to little commercial success. The final nail in the coffin was when they were unable to promote their last single, Bish Bash Bosh, after their tour with The Sweet had been cancelled. The anthemic Aggravation Place dates from their last recording session in 1976, which later appeared as an EP on Bomp in the US and Chiswick in the UK in 1978. Trevor White: "The best thing we ever done, everything just as we wanted, and if we'd stayed together we might have had the breakthrough." As soon as the session was finished White and Hampton jumped ship and joined Sparks, who were enjoying their first taste of success with This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us, and stayed with them for two albums.  Today the US market for 70’s power pop has embraced the Jook, whilst elsewhere such as the UK and Japan the market for proto punk has equally identified the Jook for re-appraisal.

"The Beat" released the 5 song 12" Mini-Album To Beat or Not To Beat in 1983 on the independent Jem/Passport label in the U.S.. One song from the album, "Dance, Dance", was made into a music video in 1984 and received limited exposure on MTV. To Beat or Not To Beat, with an additional song, was released in Europe where the group relocated (and would remain for the next several years) to promote the release and tour.
In 1985 another 6 song 12" Mini-Album "Longtime Gone" was produced by former Motörhead drummer Lucas Fox and recorded in London with UK musicians, including Jim Barber on Guitar (whose Credits include The Rolling Stones, Ruby Turner and Mick Jagger solo album), being released only in Europe. A live album recorded in Madrid, Spain with Spanish members titled Live At The Universal followed in 1986. Collins relocated to San Francisco, releasing the album One Night, with yet another incarnation of an all American Beat, this time credited as "Paul Collins + The Beat", through Sony in 1989 (again only in Europe). One Night was their first album to feature acoustic instruments such as mandolin and acoustic guitar. This was their final studio album before disbanding. Collins would go on to record several solo albums before later re-forming a new version of The Beat.

The Last is a Los Angeles-based power pop band formed in the 1970s around three brothers: Joe (guitar, vocals), Mike (vocals), and David Nolte (bass guitar). The band's sound was influenced by garage rock, surf rock, folk rock and psychedelic rock. After three self-financed singles, the band was signed by Bomp! Records, who issued the debut album L.A. Explosion! in 1979 (described by Trouser Press as "a near-perfect debut").

They reverted to their own Backlash label for second album Look Again (1980), and split up in the mid-1980s with David Nolte joining Wednesday Week and later Lucky. The band were considered a major influence on the psychedelia-influenced LA bands of the mid-1980s, including The Bangles and The Three O'Clock.

After a falling-out with Capitol Records, followed by a line-up change in 2006; the Spangles released their follow up album, Dirty Bomb, in 2007.The group dissolved in early 2008. It's fair to say if you like the Ramones, The Stones, Johnny Thunders' Heartbreakers, Cheap Trick, Chuck Berry, powerpop, punk, rock&roll, beer and sex, chances are you'll like this! Former FACES keyboardist, Ian McLagan, plays the organ!

The group, which features Krohna on vocals, the twin guitar appeal of Melody Licious and Ziggy Starcrunch, the thundering bass of Miss Lela and codpiece-filled drumming of one Dave Malarsh, released their sophomore record "More is More" in early 2007. The album is a collection of predominantly '70s glam and punk covers with some Shangri-Las and Poison thrown in for good measure. Some of the brilliantly redone covers include amazingly kick ass takes on Sweet’s “Wig Wam Bam,” Slade’s “Rock and Roll Preacher,” MC5’s “High School” and The Bay City Rollers’ “Saturday Night.” Produced by Jim Diamond!

Detroit rock'n'roll as in the time-tested, freak-out-your-mom, forget-all-your-worries version of the stuff. Hey there! Have a slice of classicist influenced Garage&B. One part Cramps (and their attendant influence on the non-purist rockabilly/roots hoo-ha in the '80s), one part Munsters/Groovie Ghoulies (the TV shows), one part smeared make-up Ronettes, one part other stuff from their Detroit environs around '66 and it's fallout on the record's co-producer, Mick Collins. Picks to hit, the female sung, "Ghost Pains," and "M'girl Left With You." - Lollipop Magazine

They only released one 7” and they only made thirteen studio recordings, but they could very well be the best power pop band you never heard in your life. On first listen, Jill Kossoris’ voice might make you think of Blondie or the Go-Gos, but the Shivvers’ biggest influence definitely seems to have been the Rasperries; you can hear it on most of the tracks, particularly “Hold On” and “Why Tell Lies.” Among the many songs the band covered live were a few by pre-Raspberries groups the Choir and Cyrus Erie, and two of the live songs on this CD are Eric Carmen covers. all of the original 1980 recordings are absolutely terrific. If they had been released at the time, the Shivvers album would almost definitely have been one of the classics of the genre along with the Dwight Twilley Band’s Sincerely and the Shoes’ Black Vinyl Shoes.

The bulk of this debut was recorded in a 48 hour frenzy at Tarbox Studios by Michael Ivins of the Flaming Lips. Taking his cue from a description of their sound as some where between the Shangrilas and Black Sabbath, Ivins perfectly captures the lethal combination of loud fuzz guitars and serious singing that sets these girls apart from the usual “Detroit Garage Sound”. Of course, a rock record from Detroit wouldn’t be complete without Ghetto Recorders. This record is truly graced by 3 glam-basted, Jim Diamond produced tracks, including a cover courtesy of the little known in the states, pre NY Dolls British rock kings (queens?), The Hollywood Brats. Speaking of covers- The Sirens unapologetically mine the endless supply of nuggets that inspire them- The offerings on this record run the full gamut of their flawless taste from Roky Erickson to Suzi Quatro, the Equals to Timi Yuro. While firmly rooted in ’70s Glam, the girls defiantly place no restrictions on their musical horizons.

The Rubber City Rebels are an American protopunk band from Akron, Ohio, that formed in 1976.

The original line-up of the band consisted of Rod Firestone (vocals), Buzz Clic (guitar), Donny Damage (bass), Stix Pelton (drums) and Pete Sake (keyboards). In their early years, the Rebels were fans (and friends) of fellow Greater Cleveland-area bands The Dead Boys and Devo. Their breakout show was opening for The Dead Boys at legendary New York City rock club CBGB in 1977. This led to a split EP with The Bizarros, entitled From Akron, which was released that year. Firestone and Clic would go on to open the Crypt in Akron, at the time the only punk rock club in the Midwest. Bands including The Dead Boys, Devo, Pere Ubu and the Bizarros played at this club.

The Rebels moved to Los Angeles in 1978, minus Pelton and Sake, and gained considerable fame on the Sunset Strip. They would frequently headline at the famous Whisky A Go-Go for bands such as The Knack, The Dickies and The Plimsouls. Following some personnel changes in the band, the Rebels signed a deal with Capitol Records helped in no small way by Doug Fieger, lead singer of The Knack (who were also signed to Capitol) and a self-professed fan of the band. The Rebels debut, self-titled album was released in 1980. Although praised by critics, sales of the album never vaulted the band past its underground status and they did not follow up with a second release.
